Welcoming 2020
Happy 2020 everyone! This year promises to be a year of vision, achievement and fulfillment for Promise Hub as a whole and all of the amazing human beings who have made it possible. While we are still fine-tuning our ambitious 2020 roadmap we want to also look to 2019 and all of the enriching experiences that made possible the place where we are now.
Reviewing 2019’s gifts
Promise Hub Express
Around this time, a year ago we had started our close collaboration with MyMalls and DHL Global – a key partnership that made our worldwide shipping service, Promise Hub Express, a reality. Although we’ve discussed MyMalls at lengths in a previous blogpost, it takes strong commitment from all of our partners to successfully uplift entrepreneurs in transitioning communities, and we are grateful for their support. Ever since the first order of Nakivale-crafted products was shipped out, the Promise Hub Express team has worked together with MyMalls to optimize and build up the system into an instrument for the financial success of our Game Changers.
Official Launch of the first Promise Hub
Throughout the first quarter of 2019, the Local Impact Team worked tirelessly to prepare both the Hub and themselves for the first cohort of Promise Hub students aka Game Changers. Interviews were held to decide who would be a part of the first cohort of Game Changers, workshops and programs were fine-tuned, and the finishing touches to the Hub were applied. The Hub officially launched on the 29th of April with a wonderful event attended by the Promise Hub local and global team, friends, family, press members, guests and of course a large number of members of the Nakivale community.
Creating amazing connections
In July, Promise Hub was represented at the the 10th edition of the Mlove Unconference, Germany. While a number of Promise Hub team members and partners were there physically to discuss our goals and ambitions, one of the most impactful moments of the gathering was created by the Local Impact Team who joined via videoconferencing and answered questions from the audience. It was something that beautifully reflected the opportunity and connectivity Promise Hub aims to bring to transitioning communities around the world.
First graduation at the Hub
Amid all of these important milestones, the brightest moment in 2019, however, was, without a doubt, the graduation of the first cohort of Game Changers. After so much preparation, it was truly inspiring to get to know the first courageous group who want more than what’s immediately available and who want to work towards achieving their potential. We are honored to work alongside them and to empower them to become successful entrepreneurs.

We will launch Promise Hub Collective
An online marketplace that showcases all of the Game Changers’ creations and skills, Promise Hub Collective will be one of the instrumental tools that bring about financial success for every ambitious entrepreneur that undergoes the Promise Hub curriculum. Throughout the second half of 2019 we have dedicated time and energy to prepare for its launch in 2020.
We will implement our Digital Wallet
One of the greatest challenges people in transitioning communities face is not being able to qualify for bank accounts due to credibility, documentation and bureaucracy. We want them to be the owners of their success and thus have been working on a digital wallet that automatically transfers money from orders placed on the Promise Hub Collective website into the digital wallet of the creators, which they can access in any of the mobile money kiosks commonly found throughout Africa.
We will continue to grow as a team and as an organization
While the shipping service, online marketplace and digital wallet are key instruments in creating a sustainable future and stable income for our Game Changers, we at Promise Hub will also launch new projects and initiatives to strengthen our capabilities and to grow as an organization, as a team and as human beings.
