Makano Art, the Art that Connects People and Brings Hope to the Most Vulnerable.
We live in a world where storytelling is at the center of the development of any society, especially if this one is shared with love and passion. Long ago humans developed different ways to communicate, from simple pointing and hand gestures to the use of spoken language and many more to come. All for the same purpose of connecting people and societies.
Chadrack Makano, a young artist and game-changer, has also developed a way of telling stories for a positive change by using his paintings and drawings.
Makano Art
Makano Art is an art project that started in 2020 with Makano, a talented young artist called who discovered his talent as a designer at the age of 8 years old in his home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
In 2018, due to intense insecurity in the East part of DRC, Makano was forced to leave his home country and seek asylum in a nearby country, the Republic of Uganda. However, in Uganda, especially in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement, life was not easy for the young artist. He felt lost in life and isolated from the rest of the world.
In 2019, Makano decided to join the Promise Hub, a creative space where he learned about entrepreneurship. A few months later, he emerged with the Makano Art project to connect people from different backgrounds through art.
BACKGROUND
When I started, I got my inspiration from my life background. Now, I get my inspiration essentially from connecting with people.
My name is Makano. In my native language, Makano means intersection. In other words, I am a bridge that connects people and their societies. As a passionate artist, I express myself through my art to stand up for those who can not say it themselves and be a voice for those with no voice. In this way, I give hope to the hopeless. I raise awareness of situations that happen in my community as well as around the world.
My goal is to nurture a positive change in the world by connecting as many people as possible through my art.
When it comes to my artwork, I enjoy talking about social and political topics like feminism, racism, injustice, tribalism...
And sometimes I just want to share my love and bring a smile back on someone's face.
I love every piece of art that I have ever made, among them "PAUSE". It is an acrylic painting on canvas that I completed in 2020. It talks about the current situation we face in the world... the COVID-19 pandemic.
