Promise Hub was happy to attend Mlove X, the 10th edition of the Mlove Unconference, which brings together and curates a tribe of extraordinary innovators with a passion for meaning in technology.

Experts, speakers, innovators and change-makers from a range of fields come together share insights, ingenuity and ideas in an informal setting in the hopes of catalyzing even more positive change in the world. Undoubtedly, one of the most memorable presences at the conference were the Local Impact Team members, videoconferencing directly from Nakivale, Uganda. It is incredible for us, who just over one year ago laid the foundation to the first Hub, to see these extraordinary change-makers from Nakivale finally connected to peers wherever they may be through the power of the internet.

During the event, our very own Diana Beata Krueger, held an inspiring and deeply moving call to action to uplift humanity, whenever and wherever possible. She illustrated Promise Hub’s journey from the life-changing moment of receiving a letter from Waed, a young Syrian girl in a refugee camp in Lebanon, to finding the wonderful community in Nakivale, all the way to empowering our formidable Local Impact Team with all the encouragement, knowledge and tools we could. Diana was best suited for the task of being the first to speak about Promise Hub in a public forum as she has helped Promise Hub find and shape its identity from the very beginning. Diana spoke from the heart and invited the audience to see through her eyes how Promise Hub has grown into what it is today.

Other members of the broader Promise Hub team and family that were present at the event include Harald Neidhardt, Madelynn Martiniere, George Bugan and Dara Dotz. The most important attendee, however, undoubtedly came in the form of the Local Impact Team who joined in via live video feed – the team were eager to share and answer questions regarding how Promise Hub has already been influencing the lives of so many in Nakivale.

Another phenomenal moment of the Mlove X Unconference came immediately after Diana’s speech, when Zex Bilangilangi, a creative activist, artist, change maker and dear friend from Kamocha, Uganda talked about his own initiatives and products. Zex has helped us in several crucial moments in establishing the Hub and we are eager to continue our strong partnership. Zex was also supported during his speech by Bushman Papashante, another vital team member who joined via online video call. You can watch their speeches in full right here.

All in all, it was a great experience for us, an amazing opportunity for the Local Team to know how admired their efforts are and perfect forum to present Promise Hub officially for the first time. Our fellow Mlove alumni took a bit of the Hub with them that day through the custom event lanyard designed in Nakivale, a small but powerful reminder of why many of them started on their respective journeys to make the world better – because fundamentally we are all Human First.

The red & white lanyard designed by our Game Changers - a memento of the event and a powerful reminder of Human resilience and courage.
